CYBEX Car Seat Lifespan Information

CYBEX car seats are designed to provide your child with unlimited safety for at least the entire period of use specified for that particular age group, our products for babies and toddlers can even be used for a sibling.

More specifically, this means:
  • Group 0 seats can be used for infants up to 18 months of age. This corresponds to a usage period of 1.5 years. The seat can also be used for a second child. Please note, however, that the maximum permissible period of use is 7 years from its first installation in a car.
  • Group 0/1 seats can be used from birth up to 4 years of age. This corresponds to a usage period of 4 years. Since the seat can be passed onto a second child, e.g. a younger sibling, the maximum permissible period of use is 8 years from its first installation in a car.
  • Group 1 seats can be used from 9 months up to around 4 years of age. This corresponds to a usage period of more than 3 years. Since the seat can be passed onto a second child, e.g. a younger sibling, the maximum permissible period of use is 7 years from its first installation in a car.
  • Group 1/2/3 seats can be used from 9 months up to 12 years of age. This corresponds to a usage period of 11 years. Group 1/2/3 seats should NOT be used a second time, e.g. for a younger sibling.
  • Group 2/3 seats: Group 2/3 seats can be used from 3 years up to 12 years of age. This corresponds to a usage period of 9 years. Group 2/3 seats should NOT be used a second time, e.g. for a younger sibling.
The time periods specified above relate to the period after purchase and to the maximum permissible usage period. As soon as the seat is installed in the car, it is exposed to high temperatures and high levels of light intensity. As a result, even high-quality and extremely age-resistant plastics such as those used by CYBEX can display certain age-related alterations. To ensure the safety of your child, we strongly recommend that the seats are not used for longer that the prescribed usage periods.

Since very high temperature fluctuations and other unforeseeable stresses are common in vehicles, it is necessary to observe the following points:
  • If the vehicle is directly exposed to strong sunlight for long periods, the child seat must be removed from the vehicle or covered with a light cloth.
  • Check all plastic and metal parts of the seat regularly for damage or change of shape or colour. If you notice any change in the child seat, the child car seat must be disposed or checked and possibly replaced by the manufacturer.
  • Changes to the fabric, especially fading, are normal when used in a vehicle and do not impair the seat's function.
